Kevin Costner flew to the top of the actors' heap in a hurry,
thanks to the time and persistence which he gave to his career, and
now he takes part in many of the multiple facets of film, as an
actor, producer, AND director! He's had many opportunities to play
some diverse roles, but his big chance was that of a slightly
loony gunfighter in the hit western, Silverado. This was Costner's
first glimpse of fame, and there was more where that came from.
He later found a soft spot with the public thanks to two baseball films:
Bull Durham, and Field of Dreams. Afterwards, in 1990, he went against
the advice of industry insiders and both acted in and directed the
3-hour epic, Dances With Wolves, which turned out to be a hit, despite
the voices which had predicted otherwise. Even with a few attempts that
turned out not to be as prosperous, he hasn't been away from the limelight
for long, and his ability to take chances and rise above adversity have
made him a big name, and will undoubtedly help him remain so in the future!
As for his projects in other areas of film, he plans to produce
and direct an adaptation of the play, The Kentucky Cycle, for HBO, and
he also will produce, direct, AND star in a big-screen film, The Postman,
based on David Brin's sci-fi thriller novel.
